Council Votes
If you are going to buy a car, it is only common sense to make sure it works.
If you are going to vote for a council member, it is only common sense to review their voting record.
Council member Ken Malich was re-elected to the Gig Harbor City Council in 2015. He was elected by a landslide of majority votes. On Council member's Malich's re-election brochure it stated: “ It has been my goal to listen to the public and have my votes reflect their wishes.” Council member Malich's words do match his votes. If you are going to buy a car, it is only common sense to make sure it works.
If you are going to vote for a council member, it is only common sense to review their voting record.
Below you will find council votes on some issues the public found to be extremely troubling..
In 2017 there will be 1 mayor and 4 council seats up for re-election. Citizens for the Preservation of Gig Harbor be keeping track of council votes. You keep track, too. Always investigate for yourself!!

February 8,2016 Contract with the Downtown Waterfront Alliance.
The
Olympic Property Group (OPG) is a
development corporation that developed Gig Harbor North. These developers brought you high density
housing resulting in gridlock traffic and unsafe cross walks in roundabouts. They do not have a business in Gig Harbor, they do not live in Gig Harbor. OPG sits on the Board of Directors of the Downtown Waterfront Alliance. Why?
The Gig Harbor City Council voted to give the Downtown Waterfront Alliance $45,000.00 your taxpayer money, with this development company sitting on the board of directors. The public was not allowed to comment until after the council voted.

January 25, 2016 To advance rezoning 112th Street to the Planning Commission
The council chambers were full and standing room only. During the Public Hearing the developer’s representative was the ONLY person who spoke in favor of rezoning 112th Street. Many folks spoke against. This rezoning result in higher density housing (up to 100 homes) and greater traffic gridlock at both of the Borgan/#16 roundabouts and overpass.

September 2015. the secretive Harbor Element Subcommittee
During this city council meeting, Citizens for the Preservation of Gig Harbor made a public comment about this secret Harbor Element Subcommittee. The planning department stated this subcommittee was formed with the intent of discussing rezoning Harborview Dr and discussing building size, etc. There are no recordings of this subcommittee and the public is not allowed to attend.
C4GH asked that this meeting be opened so the public could attend and be recorded so there would be transparency and a public record.
C4GH asked council members to speak in support of this open public meetings and transparency.
Council member Malich did speak and questioned why are there are secret meetings away from the public. The mayor and city administrator said this secret committee was legal and would not be open to the public.
None of the other council members would ask this committee meetings be open for all to hear.

May 11, 2015 Millville restaurants. An amendment to allow restaurants in Millville with a 7am open and last seating of 9:30pm and no closing hours at all. No restrictions on food delivery. This was a personal zoning amendment brought by one person for his own benefit. 69 Millville residents signed a petition for no to these commercial restaurants, 5 residents were in favor.
During a recorded meeting discussing downtown Harbor zoning amendments, the mayor is recorded as agreeing that if the local neighbors are not for something,"It doesn't go any further, I can appreciate that."
